Dual monitor setup for dell xps

And VGA is even more problematic, and arguably not worth the effort since the image quality will be noticeably worse on VGA anyway because it's the only analog signal out of all of these. It's not difficult these days, and there are always people selling displays for low prices.

How to Setup Multiple Monitors. Your system should have a Thunderbolt 3 port. Please read this post by Rockstar jphughan for more information on a similar model with similar connections. Ok, in addition to my reply above, I just saw that you wanted to run dual displays from a closed XPS That makes things a bit trickier. I use this setup anyway because there are many times I want to close my lid but keep some task running on my system.

In terms of lesser options, I believe but have not verified that if you start with the system fully powered off, lift the lid to press the built-in Power button, and then close the lid before Windows starts, then Windows will continue running even while the lid is closed, even if you have the Lid Close Action set to something like Sleep -- the reason being that the "Lid Close Action" occurs when the lid transitions from open to closed; it doesn't get triggered if Windows discovers that the lid is already closed.

However, if the system is already running when you connect your external displays and then you close the lid, this little trick obviously won't work.

And even if you start with the system asleep as opposed to hibernated or shut down , given how quickly systems resume these days, I doubt you'd be able to open the lid, press the Power button, and get the lid closed again before Windows became aware of the lid state. As I said, this is a lesser option.

Haven't set this up yet, but going through a similar decision making process with the XPS 15 - wanting to use external monitor s with lid closed and laptop set vertically on it's hinge to save desktop space and without a dock. Best I could come up with was not to power it down during the week so as to avoid having to crack the lid to get to the power button.

Once a week or so or when "docking" from being mobile I could crack the lid and power off and boot or just do a reboot without cracking the lid. As jphughan said, I'd have to work out the whole mobile to desktop transition details, and vice versa Dear jphughan , Thank you so much. LIke on Amazon you get mostly good IT equipment but shipping rates and prices are much higher than eBay-s for example not to mention Alibaba where quality is often dubious.
